Privacy notice

This privacy notice explains how News Drift Spark Pte. Ltd. collects, uses, discloses and protects personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) of Singapore. We publish this notice in plain English so readers, sources and correspondents can understand our practices without needing legal counsel to interpret every line.

Data controller

The data controller for this site is News Drift Spark Pte. Ltd., 38 Dunlop Street, #03-01, Singapore 209366. Privacy enquiries should be sent to [email protected]. General editorial correspondence may be sent to [email protected], but data-protection requests should use the privacy address so they reach the correct desk.

No web forms on this site

News Drift Spark does not operate contact forms, newsletter sign-up forms, comment boxes, account registration forms or any other data-collection forms on newsdriftspark.life. You cannot submit personal data through an on-page form because none exist. If you wish to contact us, you must use your own email client to write to the addresses published on the Find the Desk page, or telephone the desk during published hours. This design is deliberate: we prefer correspondence that arrives through channels you control, with a clear sender identity and timestamp.

What personal data we may collect

Because we do not operate web forms, we do not automatically collect names, email addresses or message content from page visits alone. Personal data enters our systems only when you choose to contact us, when you syndicate material by email under our terms, or when standard technical logs are generated by hosting infrastructure.

When you email us, we process your email address, display name if shown, message body, attachments and email headers (including timestamps and routing information). When you telephone the desk, we process your phone number and the substance of the conversation if you leave a message or if staff take notes for follow-up. When you visit the site, our hosting provider may log your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages requested and timestamps. These server logs help us maintain security and diagnose faults.

When you interact with our cookie banner, we store your consent choices in a first-party cookie and in browser local storage as described on the Cookies page. These records contain no name or email unless you separately contact us.

Purpose and legal basis for processing

We process contact data to respond to reader questions, correction requests, syndication enquiries and editorial tips. We process server logs to secure the site, prevent abuse and troubleshoot delivery issues. We process cookie-consent records to honour your privacy choices and to comply with PDPA obligations around consent for non-essential storage.

Consent applies to optional functional and analytics storage as managed through the cookie banner. Contractual necessity and legitimate interests may apply when we retain correspondence related to published corrections or syndication agreements. Legal obligation may require us to retain certain records if directed by competent authority.

Cookie categories

We group storage on this site into three categories, aligned with the cookie banner and the detailed table on our Cookies page.

Essential. Essential storage remembers your cookie consent decision. The first-party cookie is named nds_consent_v17 and persists for one hundred eighty days. A mirrored copy is kept in localStorage under the key cookie_consent_v1 so your choice survives if cookies are cleared independently. Essential storage cannot be disabled because without it we cannot reliably honour your other preferences.

Functional. Functional storage supports optional features such as embedded Google Maps. If you reject functional storage, map iframes remain hidden and a text placeholder is shown instead. No functional storage is written until you accept functional cookies or choose Accept all on the banner.

Analytics. Analytics storage is off by default. We do not load third-party analytics scripts unless you explicitly enable analytics in the customise panel and save your choice. At the time of this notice, enabling analytics does not activate any tracker beyond what is described on the Cookies page; we review this setting whenever our tooling changes.

Google Maps

Pages on newsdriftspark.life embed Google Maps to show the location of our Dunlop Street desk. The map is loaded inside an iframe only after you grant functional consent. Until then, a placeholder explains that the map is withheld and links to this notice and the Cookies page.

When the map loads, Google LLC and its affiliates may collect device identifiers, IP address, precise or approximate location derived from network data, interaction events (such as pan and zoom) and cookies or similar storage set according to Google's own policies. Google may process this data in the United States and other countries. We do not control Google's processing and recommend reading Google's privacy policy and terms for Maps Platform for full detail. You can limit map loading by rejecting functional cookies on our banner or by using browser controls to block third-party content.

Sources and editorial material

Journalists and editors may retain contact details for sources, expert commentators and official spokespeople as part of ordinary newsgathering. Such records are kept only as long as needed for verification, correction follow-up or legal defence of published work. We do not sell source lists or share them with advertisers because we do not operate an advertising network on this portal.

Disclosure to third parties

We disclose personal data only when necessary. Categories of recipients include: hosting and infrastructure providers in Singapore; email service providers that deliver mail to and from our domains; Google when you allow Maps to load; professional advisers bound by confidentiality; and public authorities when required by applicable law. We require processors to protect data appropriately and to use it only for the instructed purpose.

International transfers

Email routing, map embeds and certain cloud services may involve processing outside Singapore, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where transfers occur, we rely on contractual clauses, provider certifications or other mechanisms recognised under PDPA guidance at the time of transfer.

Retention

General enquiry emails are retained only as long as needed to respond and maintain a reasonable editorial record. Correction and syndication threads may be kept longer when the published article remains live. Server logs are rotated according to host policy, typically within weeks unless needed for an active security investigation. Cookie consent records expire after one hundred eighty days unless you update them sooner.

Security

Access to mailboxes and editorial systems is limited to staff and contractors who require access for their role. We use transport encryption for web delivery (HTTPS) and encourage correspondents to avoid sending sensitive personal data unnecessarily by email. No online system is perfectly secure; we review access lists periodically and respond to credible incident reports sent to [email protected].

Your rights under the PDPA

Subject to exceptions in the PDPA, you may request access to personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent, and ask about our policies and practices. To exercise these rights, email [email protected] with enough detail for us to identify the relevant record. We respond within a reasonable period prescribed by PDPA guidance and may request verification to prevent unauthorised disclosure.

If you believe we have not handled your data appropriately, you may contact the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore after attempting to resolve the matter with us directly.

Children

This portal is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals below thirteen years of age. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact [email protected] and we will delete it where appropriate.

Do not track

We do not respond to Do Not Track browser signals because there is no uniform industry standard. Your cookie choices on this site remain the primary control for optional storage.

Marketing and profiling

We do not use personal data collected through this Site to build advertising profiles or to send unsolicited marketing messages. If you email us, we may reply with editorial information relevant to your enquiry, but we do not add you to a promotional mailing list unless you explicitly request ongoing updates and we confirm that request in writing.

Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about individuals based solely on automated processing of personal data collected through the Site. Editorial judgments about publication are made by human editors at the Dunlop Street desk.

Data breach notification

If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in significant harm or that meets notification thresholds under PDPA, we will take reasonable steps to contain the incident, assess impact and notify affected individuals and the Personal Data Protection Commission where required. Reports may be sent to [email protected] if you believe you have evidence of unauthorised access to our systems.

Records access for correspondents

If you have previously emailed the desk and wish to know what we retain, send a access request to [email protected] with the email address you used and approximate date of correspondence. We will search reasonable archives and provide a summary or copies subject to redaction of third-party personal data contained in the same thread.

Changes to this notice

We update this notice when our practices change materially or when law requires. The date below shows the latest revision. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acknowledgement of the revised notice for new processing activities described within it.
