Reader Questions
These are the questions we receive most often by email and in person on Dunlop Street. Answers reflect desk policy as of August 2026. If your question is not covered here, write to [email protected]. We do not operate a contact form on this site; plain email is sufficient.
We expand this page when the same query arrives from multiple readers without a clear answer elsewhere on the portal. For corrections, see Put It Right. For how we publish, see the Back Room.
01 What is News Drift Spark?
News Drift Spark is an independent news portal based at 38 Dunlop Street in Little India, Singapore. We publish a daily slate of verified reporting each weekday morning, supplemented by reading rails, picture desk work, and evening rounds when the day warrants them. Our tagline — the day, in order, from Dunlop Street — describes the rhythm rather than a claim of completeness.
We are not affiliated with any political party, government agency, or commercial sponsor. Revenue comes from syndication licences and reader-supported arrangements described in our terms. We describe our methods on this site; we do not promise that reading us will produce a particular outcome in public life or private decision-making.
02 When does the daily slate publish?
The daily slate publishes at 06:30 SGT on Monday through Friday. The desk begins work around 05:00; proofs are read aloud at 06:15 as a final check. Midday notes may follow between 12:00 and 13:00 if a story moves materially. Evening rounds, when published, appear between 18:00 and 19:00.
On Saturdays the slate publishes at 08:00 and the desk closes at 13:00 unless a correction or major development requires extended coverage. Public holidays follow a reduced schedule noted on the home page. We do not publish a slate on Sundays.
03 How do I report a factual error?
Send an email to [email protected] with the article title, the full URL, and the specific passage you believe is wrong. Tell us what you think the correct information is and share any documents or links that support your report. We investigate every substantive claim.
Corrections are published in a visible block at the top of the affected article under our Put It Right policy. We aim to verify and publish corrections within two working days when the matter is straightforward. Complex corrections may take longer; we note on the article when a correction is pending.
04 Do you accept story tips anonymously?
We read tips sent to the desk email. If you require confidentiality, say so before sending sensitive material. We will reply explaining what we can and cannot protect given Singapore law and our editorial obligations. We do not promise to publish every tip, and we do not publish unverified material as fact.
Anonymous tips that cannot be corroborated may inform further reporting but will not appear on the slate without verification through the sourcing ladder. We do not expose source identities without consent except where required by law.
05 Can I republish your articles?
Full reproduction requires written syndication permission by email. Short quoted excerpts with clear attribution and a link to the original article may fall within fair dealing for news reporting; that judgement is yours to make with legal advice if needed. We licence material to partner desks under written terms available on request.
Photographs are subject to separate copyright held by the picture desk or credited photographers. Do not republish images without permission. See our terms of use for the full syndication section.
06 Why are there no comment sections?
We chose not to operate comment threads, reader forums, or reaction buttons on this portal. Moderation cost, legal exposure, and the tendency of open comments to distract from verified reporting led to that decision. Substantive feedback and corrections are handled by email.
Questions that recur in mail are answered on this page. Disagreement with our editorial judgement is not itself grounds for a correction; factual errors are handled under Put It Right.
07 How does the sourcing ladder work?
The sourcing ladder is our five-step verification checklist: identify the source, verify documents, corroborate with a second account or record, desk review against duplication and tone, and editor sign-off before the slate. Each step must be satisfied or explicitly waived with a written reason in the internal log.
The full ladder is described on the sourcing ladder page. When a correction reveals a gap in the ladder, we update internal procedure and note significant changes in the back room.
08 Can I visit the desk in person?
Yes, by appointment during published hours. Email ahead with your name, purpose, and preferred time. We are at 38 Dunlop Street #03-01; use the staircase up from the five-foot way. We do not operate a ground-floor reception or walk-in counter.
Visits suit corrections handoffs, syndication discussions, and arranged interviews. We cannot accommodate unscheduled pitches during publishing day without an appointment. See Find the Desk for hours and contact detail.
09 Do you use cookies and embedded maps?
Essential cookies keep the site running and remember your cookie preference. Functional cookies, when enabled, load Google Maps embeds on several pages. Analytics cookies are optional and off by default; we do not use them to build advertising profiles.
You can accept all, reject non-essential, or customise categories via the banner at the bottom of each page. The cookie notice lists each category and links to Google's map privacy documentation.
